NeuroArt Image Contest Rules and Guidelines
Eligibility
- Any contestant over the age of 18 with an interest in neuroscience is welcome to enter the contest.
- Use of MBF Bioscience products is not required.
- Images that have won previous competitions are not eligible for entry.
Eligible Submissions
Submitted images may include, but are not limited to:
- 2D and 3D microscopy images obtained using techniques such as:
- Brightfield microscopy
- Widefield microscopy
- Structured illumination microscopy
- Confocal microscopy
- Electron microscopy
- Slide scanning
- Light sheet microscopy
- fMRI images
- 3D brain reconstructions
- Paintings or drawings of the brain or neurons
Contest Structure
The NeuroArt Contest consists of:

- Monthly contests (with monthly winners)
- An annual grand prize competition
- Participants in any monthly contest are automatically entered into the annual competition.
- Participants may submit up to three (3) images per month.
- Images must be submitted by the last day of each month.
- Monthly winners will be announced during the first week of the following month.
- Annual grand prize winners will be announced the following year.
Entry and Judging
- No purchase is necessary to enter or win the NeuroArt Image Contest.
- Entries will be judged based on:
- Original and creative content
- Technical proficiency
- Artistic and visual appearance
Monthly Awards
Two winners may be selected each month:
People's Choice
- Awarded to the image receiving the highest number of public votes.
Juror's Choice
- Selected by a panel of scientists and artists based on:
- Technical proficiency
- Creative content
- Artistic and visual appearance
Note: Monthly contests require a minimum of four (4) submissions. If fewer than four images are submitted in a given month, all entries will automatically be carried over to the following month's contest.
Additional Terms
- All submitted images may be displayed in MBF Bioscience emails and on MBF Bioscience social media channels.
- Each participant is limited to three (3) monthly wins per calendar year.
- The judging panel is selected by MBF Bioscience and consists of scientists and artists.
- Decisions of the judging panel are final.
Image Usage Rights
By entering the contest, entrants grant MBF Bioscience a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, fully paid, perpetual license to use submitted images in any form of media, including social media, for any purpose, without compensation, notification, or additional permission.
Entrants retain copyright ownership of their images. Credit will be given to the author whenever an image is used.
Submission Requirements
To submit an image to NeuroArt, please include:
- Title of the image
- Brief image description
- Technique used
- Contact information
Prizes
Monthly Winners (awarded each month)
- Juror's Choice: Selected by the judging panel.
- People's Choice: Determined by public voting.
Both monthly winners will receive either:
- $250 toward an MBF Bioscience software purchase, or
- A free 3D-printed neuron.
The judges reserve the right not to award a monthly prize if no submission is deemed to be of sufficient quality.
Annual Grand Prize Winners
Three annual winners will be selected:
- 1st Place: $3,000 toward an MBF Bioscience software purchase
- 2nd Place: $2,000 toward an MBF Bioscience software purchase
- 3rd Place: $1,000 toward an MBF Bioscience software purchase
