Description: This image shows a blood vessel in situ in the murine cortex, and the resultant 3D morphological reconstruction taken from a 40x confocal Zstack. GFAP immunopositive (green) astrocytes possess endfeet, which wrap around the blood vessel and contribute to the formation of the blood brain barrier. These endfeet play an essential role in establishing the selective permeability to the central nervous system and have been implicated in multiple diseases including neurodegenerative disorders, psychiatric disorders, and most recently Covid-19. Erythrocytes can also be seen within the blood vessel.
