February Image Contest

Description: The image was captured using Leica Stellaris 8. Drosophila pupal brain expressing a membrane-tagged GFP in a subset of neurons were fixed using paraformaldehyde and immuno-stained with GFP (gold) and N-Cadherin (blue) antibodies followed by secondary antibody staining with Alexa Fluor 488 and 555 respectively. Stained sample was then mounted on a glass slide and embedded in SlowFade Gold mounting media under a coverslip and imaged with high XY and Z resolution. The raw image series was first deconvolved using SVI Huygens and subsequently flattened along the Z using maximum intensity projection in FiJI. The image was then processed in Adobe Photoshop to remove background noise outside the region of interest. Final image shows developing neurons of the fly visual system sending arborizations (gold) into synaptic regions stained with N-Cadherin (blue).
