Description: Five days after mouse optic nerve injury, CR3+ (red) and Iba1+ (green) myeloid cells accumulate near the injury site. This myeloid cell response involves both resident microglia and infiltrating monocytes. CR3 is a phagocytic receptor on myeloid cells. The strong CR3 signal and large, round, processes-less morphology suggest phagocytic activation. These inflammatory cells are likely engulfing and removing injury-associated debris. Methods: fluorescence immunohistochemistry and widefield fluorescent microscopy on 14um cryosection of injured mouse optic nerve. By: Sheri L Peterson, PhD at Boston Children’s Hospital.
