Description: 10 micron thick C57B6 mouse retinal section immunohistochemically labeled for Arl13b (red, a marker of primary cilia), acetylated alpha-tubulin (green, a marker for both ciliary axonemes and stabilized microtubules), and protein kinase C alpha subunit (blue, a marker of retinal bipolar cells). Nuclei labeled with DAPI (white). Images taken with a Zeiss 710 LSM confocal microscope. Primary cilia are localized to nearly every neuron in the retina with most labeling occurring in the photoreceptor inner and outer segments (the location of the primary cilium in these cells).
