April Image Contest

Description: Cholinergic motoneurons (red) and compliment protein (green) expression in the spinal cord ventral horn of an adult mouse. Image was obtained with confocal microscopy with a 63x oil immersion objective and is a maximum projection of a z-stack (1.5um steps). Immunohistochemistry was performed on 40um coronal sections of post-fixed wild-type cervical spinal cord tissue. Antibodies against Choline Acetyltransferase (ChAT, red), compliment protein C1q (C1q, green), and neuronal nuclear protein (NeuN, blue) detected changes in protein expression after neuromodulation.
